A lot of people ask me what they should wear for photo sessions.
Possibly more important than what to wear, is what not to wear.
Avoid busy graphics with words/brands across them. I don't have ADHD, but they distra.....
Speaking of busy- for group shots, outfits need not be matchy/matchy, but flow is good. Layers are great for pulling colors together. Details get lost if everyone is wearing solid white or solid black. Do a quick image search for 'gap ad' or 'jcrew ad' and you'll get an idea of how different colors, layers, and accessories photograph well together. Dress the girls first and dress the guy to match. A quick, easy way to mix up the look of your photos is to add a cardigan, jacket or scarf.

I prefer toes to shoes. (Gasp. I know. I love shoes. Especially cute ones. But no matter how cute the shoes are- little kid toes are cuter.)
Newborns are best photographed in their birthday suits. It's great for capturing all their precious wrinkles and newness that goes away too soon. And let's be honest, their "cute clothes" are too big and they look a little silly when photographed.
If the birthday suit scares you- there are super cute diaper covers and cloth diapers to consider (check out Etsy!).
Bring accessories (hair bows, hats, tutus, etc), blankets, scarves, or other props to add color and texture.
If you are in on the newborn shoot (mommas and daddies) a black shirt is great for those hand shots. A white shirt is great for those group shots. Adults should avoid brights/colors for newborn shoots (they reflect odd colors off of you as you are trying to stand in the background).
