Welcome to My Space!

Hello regular {cb}hers! Sorry I don't have any cute kids to post for you today. Come back soon for that! Today's post is for my photographer friends.
B.B. (that's before Beckett), I spent more time hanging out with fellow photogs and checking out each other's spaces. S.B. (since Beckett), I haven't had as much time to and I've been really bad at replying to requests to. (And I'm really sorry about that! I just hate to reply with a 'no' because I'd love to and always think I'll make time but it just doesn't happen.) Soooo this post is for those of you wanting to see my space.
I should clarify- my indoor space. (Because you know I shoot outside as much as I possibly can.) Or at least part of my indoor space (this desktop and my 'mobile office' is in another room that's not really fit for a tour right now). :)

Anyway... on with the tour.

As clients enter the studio, I hope they see the {cb}h logo on the wall because it's about the only thing in the room that doesn't serve a functional purpose. It's cute, right? :)

1.) We'll start the tour actually right outside my space. Outside the door is a changing table (made by my FIL as a gift for B but it works great on double duty). It gets used a lot during baby sessions and also stores studio cleaning supplies and extra gear for newborn sessions.

2.) Chalkboard wall that R painted (thanks, hun!).

3.) Backdrop frames (more on these in a minute).

4.) Product samples and ordering info.

5.) Chairs, props, bean bags, blankets, etc.

6.) Hats, baby legs, tutus, headbands, etc, etc, etc. I need more of these for hanging (another reason to take down the {cb}h logo?) and other things (I just got a bunch of rompers that need a home!).

7.) A mirror! I only recently added it (duh, huh?) and it gets used way more than I anticipated. And on the bookshelf: wipes/paper towels for quick clean ups, chalk, more headbands, more props.

8.) Some of my hanging backdrops, rugs, newborn accessories, etc. I have a storage closet that even more (too many more) are in.

9.) Side view of a couple of backdrop frames. I (okay, my supportive husband) makes frames out of furring strips then staples fabric to either side. Each frame gives me two backdrops. Most of the time I order 2 yards of fabric (premium fabric comes in wider widths so it works great. Basic fabrics will be smaller and 2 yards may not be enough depending on what you're shooting.)

10.) IKEA curtain wire (sold here). I use it as a 'backdrop stand' to have a stationary place to hang blankets from for newborn sessions. And yes- those are office clips. I use what I have on hand when I can. Those are what I had available to me when I started and I just haven't gotten around to buying anything different. They work great! :)

In the photo above, you can see the rod some fabric backdrops are on. I also use it to hang larger backdrops from.

11.) Stationary set ups. I've attached these vinyl backdrops directly to the wall and leave them there. If you wanted to change them out, you could use velcro strips on the back and the wall so they could be switched more easily (I may be doing that in the near future).   The door behind the green chair isn't numbered here but it goes to storage (in case you're a client that's been curious as to what's behind door number 2).12.) More blankets! Stored on the ladder. I use throw blankets for newborn sessions but I also throw them over the backdrop frames and tuck the bottom under for regular backdrops too. Not as great as the stapled versions but another way to get cheap backdrops. You may have noticed (I just did) that my tour didn't talk about lighting (one of the questions people ask me about the most!). I have 4 soft boxes that aren't even in my studio right now (they're behind that storage door) because I just wasn't using them and I hated them taking up space. They work great (if you're interested in buying them cheap, email me!) but I had the daylights installed (you can see them in the first photo above) and pull from those 90% of the time I'm in the studio.

Hope you enjoyed the tour! Hope you found it helpful. If you have posted your studio tour, send me a link! And if you haven't yet, get on that! (Please?) Happy Shooting!  :)
